VOSTOK company story starts back in 1942, when one of the Moscow watch-making plants has been evacuated from Moscow to a little town Chistopol located on the Kama River. Defense equipment was the only company output during war years, but as soon as the war was over VOSTOK started to make mechanical wrist watches - the main production item ever since. In 1965 Vostok company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union. This year marks the creation of the world-famous "Komandirskie" ("Commander") watch. Military watch grew very popular even with people who were unaware which end of the gun bullet comes off, mainly due to high precision, excessive reliability and durability. The appearance of the watch also contributes to its appeal - functional and clear-cut design invoked the feeling of belonging to the tough world of combat professional. The experience which VOSTOK gained through development of the army watch was the foundation of our next special watch - "Amphibian". This impressive timepiece in stainless-steel case endured the depth of 200 meters - kind of a wrist submarine. I have worn this Vostok watch for 4 months now. Never goes out time/date.Note, as this is an older very cool technology from times past ie mechanics windup vs modern battery, there are some steps you must take to keep it in synch. Actually very fun steps, all part of owning a mechanical watch.I always wind this watch up every 2 or 3 days. About 20 windings. You don’t have to, but recommended if you want to keep perfect time and not lose a second.Main reason you do this, is that yes the constant motion of your hand throughout the day, in effect does wind this watch up….the problem is if you wear this watch to bed or take it off to place on the nightstand at night, it will sit immobile for 6-8 hours depending on how long you sleep. Again motion of your hand keeps this thing wound up.So to be gentler on the mechanism, and to account for this nightly down time, it is good time wind it using the winding knob every few days.Plus it is kind of fun just to wind it every so off to connect you to another era when Swiss wind up watches were all the rage or in this case Russian.The watch is very rugged. It was designed originally for military use.
